I'm fluent in helpless victim.
Finished Mana Khemia by playing it for several nights! ... oh, me.
And then I was stupid enough to save my new game+ file over my old file, and only then noticed that your inventory does not carry over. Boo. Encyclopedia percentage does carry over, though, but it doesn't help much if I still need to make all the recipes myself again and have to analyze everything I fight. I still hadn't maxed my grow books and had several stat up fruits in my inventory ;_;
Oh well, can't be helped.
Think I'm going for Jess' ending this time. I did Roxis' the first time since I like him best, and god, his speech just before the final boss is really rather amazing. Also his ending, mmrr. Perfect mix of playful and serious business.
...and of course I reloaded his fourth character quest several times just to ask him his opinion about all of the girls in your workshop. I think, in the end, what I like best about Roxis is how he's so brutally honest. It's... everything about him screams 'snobby' and 'excessively polite' and he is - or rather, the way he structures his sentences the general way he talks is very formal and polite, it's just that whatever he's saying isn't.
I had several ships when I started playing this game, but what I want now, more than shipping fic, is workshop antic fic, where they are just all hanging out being friends.
And what I like in their battle roles is how some tropes are just switched around. Yes, Jess is the first girl you get in your party, and yes, she's your main healer, and yes, she lacks good damaging spells, but her normal attack command will do the most damage thanks to that chariot she shoots out of her bag. Oh, Jess' bag. I love the scenes with that thing. Jess' stats say she would be the black mage, actually, but her skill list doesn't oblige. And all of her heals have long recovery times for her, and she can't swap out during that. Her supports are rather nice though. And she may be the healer and the first girl, but she isn't an explicit love interest. Nikki is the only one who is obvious in her interest in Vayne and... I don't know, Nikki just gives me the feeling that she isn't into it for Vayne himself. Just, I think she'd be okay with any nice guy. And it might be horrible of me to think like that, but it's made rather obvious that Nikki isn't terrribly picky about potential husbands.
Talking about Nikki, how often do you see a hammer/axe wielding party member who still has great speed? Because she has it. It's just that, as was also the case with Jess, her skill set is lacking. She's incredibly fast and hits really hard, but all of her specials either require items or take long to execute. And I have issues with her ending, but that might need to be saved for another post.
Flay is hilarious and his sword is also hilarious. I mean, it's a - what, exactly? A shuriken-shooting drill-transforming lazer mech sword. Or something like that. And in battle he's... the standard heavy hitter. Okay tank in the beginning, not so much at the end, but he's durable.
The tanks in question are two of your mages, actually: Pamela and Muppy. Pamela is horrendous in battle in the beginning: low HP, mediocre SP, most of her skills are cast from HP and has all the endurance of wet paper. Then she gets an auto-revive when she is in the Vanguard. Then she gets physical immunity. Her D-support negates an attack. And No Bullying! gets stronger the lower on HP she is.
Muppy has incredibly high HP and Def for a mage, but almost all his spells are fire-elemental which can either work for or against you. His D-support is really the main reason why I use him: to tank area-effect spells.
Roxis needs several character quests before he gets damage potential, otherwise you're stuck with simply Purifying and Retraction. And those skills are the main reason he gets used (although I didn't really use Retraction since Roxis generally had other things to do on his turn), but if he hasn't got his Mana he sucks at dealing damage. But the final boss fell pretty fast once I had three Judgements and two Chrona Drives on the bar.
Anna is the fragile speedster. Hits fast and hits hard, but her Def and Res are nothing to write home about.
As someone on GF said: when the enemy is cheating, use Roxis. When you want to cheat, use Pamela.
...uh. I had somewhere I was going with this, but I forgot. Ugh. So now I have a post filled with battle roles but not much else. Whatever.
