No really, Asian F was FLAWLESS.
Schue was a dick and finally realized it (he let go of Emma's hands and kneeled down next to her instead) and even if he only took a small step in the right direction, at least he's moving! ...a running leap backwards, that is, with his immediate follow-up of 'Fix You'.
Brittany was awesome and sexy because she felt like it and danced with girls, for girls.
Kurt and Blaine were flawless and adorable.
MIKE CHANG DESERVES ALL THE HUGS.
SO DOES HIS MOTHER.
Rachel and Mercedes clashed wonderfully and neither got what they needed. They were both in the wrong (Rachel to Kurt and Mercedes to Rachel and ND) and got called on it.
Also, Mercedes feeling far more confident now that she has a boyfriend made a lot of sense to me. Mercedes just comes over as that kind of girl. The kind of girl who will say she's strong and independent but who isn't. She wants to be like that, but she just isn't. And now she has a guy who says it for her, and she takes his word as gospel. He's going to be a terrible influence on her and I look forward to the deconstruction of their relationship.
As for the competition between her and Rachel; Mercedes had a point about Glee club sort of being the Rachel Berry Show, but the difference between Mercedes and Rachel is that Rachel actually works for it. Like, she's rude and abrasive and self-centered and thinks that just because she's got talent she's entitled to the solos, but she works for it. Hard. Just think about the brief slice of Rachel's training regimen in Vitamin D.
Mercedes, on the other hand, doesn't want to put in the effort. She complains about Schue always singling her out and that Rachel is the only one to not have to attend the dance lessons - which is false since the only ones who were required to be there were Mercedes, Finn, Kurt and Puck, and most of the others just show up for various reasons - but ignores that Rachel has been taking dance lessons since she was small, AND that Mercedes isn't actually trying all that hard in the first place.
The thing is, for most of the first two seasons she hasn't felt like she could actually beat Rachel at things. Now she's got her boyfriend bolstering her confidence and feels brave enough to actually start taking solos from Rachel, but she still doesn't want to actually work for it. And Schue calls her out for it.
About the competition, I think the writers wanted us to think that Mercedes was better than Rachel. Rachel certainly thought so. But I honestly believe that Artie, Emma and Beiste genuinely thought both of them were good, and wanted both of them to shine. And Rachel took it, gladly, because she thought she'd lost the lead.
And Mercedes threw a diva fit.
